Trappings of the Past

Trappings of the Past

This series of potographs portray a couple (the artist's parents) in the midst of the Yemenite ceremony with the paraphernalia and costumes. Each photograph is framed together with a spread ripped out from R'm Aharoni's working diary. In the diary R'm sketches the effects the photographs made on his contemporary standpoint. He connects these Trappings of the Past that appear in the photos, to the way they have established his own identity. Ultimately he also reflects on the medium of photography, where an encounter with a photograph becomes a means of search for selfhood.
